Image via WikipediaThe Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) tersely urged the media to refrain from spreading “unfounded speculations” about arrests made in Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case.
A statement issued by MQM’s coordination committee said that news reports on two people being arrested at the Karachi airport were “devoid of truth, baseless and concocted.”
The committee said that the purpose behind these “fabricated and malicious” reports was nothing but to “tarnish the image of the MQM and damage its reputation.”
Members of the coordination committee said that MQM was “consulting its legal advisers for (taking) legal action in this regard.”
They said that the case was being investigated by “the (New) Scotland Yard, and the media should desist from spreading false and unfounded speculations.”
In Karachi, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that law enforcement agencies had not arrested any man named ‘Waseem’ from Karachi airport in the Dr Imran Farooq murder case and no agency had sent any report to the British authorities regarding any Pakistani political party.
Rebuffing all media reports in this regard, Malik said this was “all being done to drive a wedge between the PPP and the MQM.”
Malik told reporters that reports regarding arrest of two MQM workers from an airport “are baseless and no information was provided by Scotland Yard or other British agency (in this regard).” He said that the government of Pakistan had not sent any report against the MQM to the British authorities.

Zulqarnain Haider being ignored by hometown, searching beyond Lahore
Image via WikipediaZulqarnain Haider is searching for a team to play in the next month's National T20 Championship as he has not been selected in any of the two Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) teams.
The LCCA announced the two squads on Tuesday with Test players Abdul Razzaq and Taufiq Umar as the captains but didn't name controversial stumper Zulqarnain in either team.
Brothers, Kamran and Adnan Akmal have been named as the wicket-keepers in the Lahore teams.
"It is disappointing to not be considered in either of the two Lahore teams because this is my home region and if they don't play me who will select me," Haider complained.
"I want to impress the national selectors and make a comeback but Lahore has ignored me. So now the only option I have is to try to play for some other association in the National T20 championship."
LCCA President Khawaja Nadeem said only those players were considered and selected in the Lahore teams who have played cricket in the last one year at domestic and international levels.

US citizen Warren not recovered yet
Reuters Report: Pakistani intelligence officials denied reports on Thursday that an American development expert, kidnapped 12 days ago in the eastern city of Lahore, had been rescued, saying an early morning rescue operation was unsuccessful.
Early reports from police officials and local media said Warren Weinstein, 70, the country director for J.E. Austin Associates Inc., an Arlington, Virginia.-based consulting firm, had been rescued in Khushab in Punjab province.
"He has not been recovered yet," a senior intelligence official in Punjab told Reuters.
He criticised the Lahore police chief, Ahmed Raza Tahir, for telling the media yesterday that Weinstein would be recovered "soon" and jeopardising an intelligence operation to rescue him.
"There was an operation in the Khushab area this morning, but it was unsuccessful, as the captors moved away," the intelligence official said.
Earlier, a police official told Reuters that Weinstein had been rescued. Local television channels also reported the release. Two hours after the initial reports, the U.S. embassy said it could not confirm Weinstein's rescue. A spokeswoman for the embassy said it was in contact with police officials, and none of them could confirm it either.
Weinstein had been working on a development project in Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas where Pakistani troops have been battling Islamist insurgents for years.
Up to eight assailants kidnapped Weinstein in a pre-dawn raid on his house in Lahore on August 13.

Police arrested 3 arrested persons over American’s abduction in Lahore
LAHORE: Police said that they had arrested three people suspected of belonging to the gang that abducted 70-year-old American Warren Weinstein, a development expert from Lahore on August 13. Lahore police chief Malik Ahmed Raza said on Wednesday the arrests were made after officers tracked cellphone numbers. He gave no more details. Weinstein was kidnapped by around 10 gunmen from his home in Model Town.
